Kilowatts is a website dedicated to renewable energy. Currently, the primary focus is on:
- photovoltaics and wind power, but eventually we plan to cover all forms of renewable energy.
- off-the-shelf technologies, readily available, proven and practical.
- residential and small to medium commercial installations, but we won't be completely ignoring developments at the industrial/corporate end of the market.
Kilowatts is primarily an information-oriented website: it does not sell products or services. Our goal is to make news, data, tools, resources, theoretical and practical information, and industry contacts freely available to anyone interested in designing, building and maintaining renewable energy systems.
Kilowatts is committed to the idea of community development through open source development models. The phenomenal success of these models is evident, for example, in the Linux computer operating system. In the medium to longer term, we plan to publish a range of renewable energy software and texts under an open source/open documentation license which will make them freely available to anyone in the world that requires them.
Kilowatts does currently run advertising, in the form of Google and banner advertising. While we'd prefer not to do this, the reality is that a website costs money to set up and run. If alternative income sources arise in the future, we may be able to dispense with advertising.
